THREE NEW MEMBERS OF THE CIVIC COALITION FOR FREE AND FAIR ELECTIONS

On 14 September 2020, the Council of the Civic Coalition for Free and Fair Elections (CALC) met in an online meeting to discuss the latest developments in the electoral field and briefly present the main comments on the electoral process, the media, inclusion and electoral education. In addition, topics were discussed regarding the approval of the suspension of Coalition membership on request for 5 organizations, the approval of the accession of new members to the Coalition and the election of new members of the CALC Council for the new electoral cycle.

The Coalition Council unanimously approved the applications to join the Coalition of 3 organizations – the Institute for European Policies and Reforms (IPRE), A.O. The Center for International Communication and Human Rights in Ialoveni (CCIDO) and the Laboratory of Development Initiatives (LID-Moldova). Also, two new members of the Coalition Council were approved, among the adherent members of CALC, based on the submitted files, the Center for Legal Resources of Moldova (CRJM) and the INFONET Alliance. Membership of the Council, except for the founding members, expires once the election campaign is over and the Coalition’s activity is assessed for that period.

During the meeting, the results of the mapping of the activities of the Coalition members during the electoral period for the presidential elections this autumn were also presented. Several CALC member organizations have already started projects in the field of monitoring the electoral process and the behavior of the media, civic and electoral education, including the promotion of inclusive elections.

The meeting of the CALC Council was attended by 6 of the 8 members of the CALC Council, respectively the meeting was a deliberative one. The updated composition of the Coalition consists of 34 non-governmental organizations from the Republic of Moldova that have subscribed to the principles stipulated by the Charter for Free and Fair Elections.
