REQUEST FOR CONSTITUTIONAL COURT UPDATE ON THE STATUS OF THE PETITION CONCERNING THE INVALIDATION OF LOCAL ELECTIONS

The Civic Coalition for Free and Fair Elections asks the Constitutional Court to prioritize the examination of Petition 106b of 20.07.2018, concerning the review of Constitutional provisions regarding the rule of law guarantee through ensuring the rights to vote and to be elected, and the citizens’ right to participate in the administration of public affairs. The petition is a collaborative effort between a series of non-governmental organizations, including members of the Civic Coalition for Free and Fair Elections, which has been picked up by several MPs and submitted to the Constitutional Court for review.

In full awareness of the attributions of the Constitutional Court, and of its petition review procedures, we put forth the above-mentioned request to the Court, as it is our concern that the time left until the commencement of the Parliamentary election period would be insufficient for the legislative body to examine, comment on, and eliminate the causes that have led to the invalidation of the results of the local elections of 20 May – 3 July 2018.
