DISCUTIONS WITH DONOR COMMUNITY ABOUT THE 2018 PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS

On May 11, the Civic Coalition for Free and Fair Elections met with the donor community from the Republic of Moldova to announce the resumption of the Coalition’s work and to present the initiatives planned by its members in the context of the next parliamentary election. With the late 2018 as the most likely period for the next parliamentary election, civil society has started preparations for the monitoring of the electoral process, the media, and the actions of the election management bodies.

Igor Botan, ADEPT’s CEO, presented an analysis of the situation leading up to the election, mentioning the change of the electoral system and its potential risks for a free and fair electoral process.

During the discussion, representatives of the donor community specified their financing priorities for the election year 2018 and reaffirmed their interest in supporting the initiatives fostering democracy in the country through transparent, fair, and inclusive elections.
